DD July 23 Redrawn

I'd like to think that some of the squiggles created during the daily drawing challenge might end up as something more substantial. Part of the idea is to switch off "the critic" so that something beautiful or interesting can emerge without having to justify its existence to the critic. I think that is what happened with this drawing.

Daily Drawing 7 August

I kind of cheated with this post and drew something I had already drawn sometime ago. I think the first version, the pen and ink sketch, was better. I did the original sketch at a nightclub and this was the girl serving drinks.

Daily Drawing

Ok I've been reading a lot of blogs where artists post a drawing a day and I think it is a good discipline. So I'm going to do it my self. My goal for now is a month of daily drawings.

Nikolai loves books, just devours them!

Nikolai Benjamin Shnookal born 24 of February 2009

Nikolai is here! And yes he's two months old and this is the first I've blogged about him. But you know there is little time for computers with a newborn around.
Anyway he is soooo lovely and cute - I'm smitten.
He's very chubby and loves a cuddle.

Going Down Swinging Reviewed in the Age - I get a mention!

On Monday night Polly and Chris came over. As I was making them a cup of tea Polly mentioned that it was great to see a review of Going Down Swinging 27 with a mention of my name in the Age the day before.

What what what??

I bought the Age that day and had totally skimmed past it and probably wouldn't have known about it if Polly hadn't pointed it out.

Needless to say it was rather thrilling to see my name in print accompanyied by the encouraging word "engaging".

Published!

It was rather exciting to see my work in print last Wednesday.
Thanks to Sal, Brett, Dale, Chris and Jim for coming to the launch.

Spirit Houses at the Zoo

Last week we took friends from Sydney to the Melbourne Zoo. Near the Thai inspired elephant exhibit were these beautiful spirit houses. I'd love one for our home.

Kids do the darndest things meme

I was tagged for a meme by Adi, er... um... some months ago and around that time blogger turned off my send-blog-comments-to-my-email so I've only done it now, having checked my blog and found (wow!) comments. I didn't think anyone looked because I am so slack at posting.

Anyway I've done this in the Rudolf Steiner/Waldorf aesthetic. Since one of the rules of the meme is to use no pencil preparatory sketches I thought doing it just with the 6 watercolour colours would somehow be appropriate. I went to a Steiner school and all we could use was cool and warm primary colours and certainly no pencil. It was strictly straight from the imagination to the paper.

This is very different to my usual style, but it was valuable to do. I think I might try outlines in blue...if I ever do colour work.

Thanks Adi for tagging me!

Felix at work

I took Felix into work last Thursday as the builders were finishing off our bathroom renovations and neither Jim nor I could be there to make sure he didn't get out. He was as good as gold! I wanted him to earn some cash licking stamps but he flaked out after a very short time.
